2018 was a slow year for me as far as writing books goes–little progress on a single one. Not an excuse, but the fact is, there were<\/em> some health issues in 2018. So<\/strong>, I\u2019m stepping on the gas for 2019. Not only the New Year but the next one and well beyond.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Several years ago, I determined I\u2019d publish ten more books after\u00a0Waiting for Westmoreland<\/a>—<\/em>a memoir chronicling the path from Vietnam to enlightenment.<\/em> I won\u2019t count a Tenth Anniversary Edition of that book which came out with modest changes in 2017.<\/p>\n The Fountain<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>does count—<\/em>a collection of seven short stories of fantasy and sci-fi\u00a0which also arrived on Kindle in 2017.<\/span><\/p>\n In time for the 2019 holidays, I will put out a new assortment of fifteen<\/strong> stories\u2014double the word count of The Fountain! <\/strong><\/em>You’ll find some tasty tidbits of\u00a0<\/span><\/span>micro and flash fiction along with many traditional short pieces running three to seven thousand words. Many of these items began as snippets posted right here on John Maberry\u2019s Writing.<\/p>\n What will you find in this as yet unnamed collection?\u00a0<\/strong>Here\u2019s a sample:<\/em>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Speaking of The Vacation<\/em>–the novel will\u00a0be released in\u00a0<\/em>late fall, 2020<\/em><\/strong>–<\/em>-come\u00a0<\/em>you know what or high water<\/em>.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Now for the big plans<\/strong>—seven more books<\/em><\/strong> that will meet my goal of ten books after Waiting for Westmoreland:<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n Ambitious? Bold? Yes, <\/em>but not foolhardy. You should have seen the first cut, 15 books\u2014one a year and more. <\/em>My wife brought me to my senses. We want to have a life\u2014including travel and other pursuits in our senior years<\/em> \ud83d\ude0a.<\/span><\/p>\n Can I do it?\u00a0 Yes,<\/strong>\u00a0you\u2019ll have to see my other blog to believe it<\/a>.
